- WHAT HAPPENED FROM JAN-AUG, 2002?
I dunno. Let’s pretend I ran off with the circus and they returned me unharmed because they thought I was too freaky.WHERE DID 2001 GO?
I have no written records of this year ever happening… I’m pretty sure the aliens didn’t “borrow” me for all 365 1/4 days, but aside from mild discomfort in my lower regions, I seem to remember the year including:MYSTERY LOAF – the band was born and it rocked its improvising face off. I remember the Purple Onion fondly. I think.
DREAM CRUSHER – I was playing bass in this band and it too rocked, in a really good rock band kinda way. Eventually they needed a real bass player and we parted ways in a friendly, rock manner. Funtimes, that rock’n'roll bass player gig. Playing Studebaker’s was especially absurd…K KONSEPT – it was also a frolicking good time every now and then. Again, nice memories of playing the Purple Onion.I’M SURE THERE WAS MUCH MORE, BUT, ENOUGH ALREADY!

- WINNIPEG:Before I moved to Vancouver, I did some playing in Winnipeg. One of the main highlights was playing for an Elvis impersonator who wasn’t exactly… well, let’s just say he wasn’t exactly gifted. The memory of doing a performance/interview on live television stands out in my mind because the drummer (whose hand you could see come out of the edge of the screen) grabbed my bum while the host was talking about Valentine’s Day. Interesting look on my face… The Elvis dude also had a stalker kinda guy who would show up to his gigs and pretend to be him. The stalker dressed kinda like Elvis, but more specifically like the impersonator he was impersonating, who was dressed like Elvis. It was pretty surreal. A close second to this fine experience would have been playing one gig with a thrash band named Crawl. I remember that the lead singer scared me and the bass player smashed his bass after the last tune of the night. “All he had left was an empty Safeway bag.” I walked over and stomped on it as it lay, emotionless, on the stage. I spent most of my time in Winnipeg learning Steve Vai licks and playing really loud. Goodtimes.
