Separate (2005)

This piece for solo cello expresses the struggle between the individual’s inherent feelings of connection and separateness from those and that which surround us. The duality and contradiction of one’s nature is expressed through intervallic content, sonority, gesture and form. The piece is intended to verge on an uncomfortably voyeuristic experience for the audience, as we listen to a lone voice struggle with and eventually resign to its nature,┬áits questions, and its space apart.
